BlackFog Wants to Keep Cyber Attackers’ Hands Off Your Data

Historically, organizations have relied on traditional defensive approaches such as perimeter-based firewalls and endpoint based anti-virus software to prevent cyberattacks. However, these approaches aren’t successful in preventing the attacks we see today. You only need to look at the frequency of successful ransomware attacks on some of the world’s largest organizations as evidence.

BlackFog looks at the problem in a different way by making the assumption that bad actors will gain access to a network or system if they really want to. We switch the focus from trying to keep the cybercriminals out to preventing them from removing any data, effectively eliminating successful cyberattacks and data breaches with our on-device data exfiltration technology.

How are you solving that problem?

The one thing all successful cybercriminals must do is send sensitive data outside of the network. Simply infiltrating a network or a device does not make a successful cyberattack. Without data exfiltration, there is no data loss, no data breach, and no data ransom or extortion.

Our preventative approach uses behavioral analysis and data exfiltration technology to stop hackers before they even get started. BlackFog is the only on device data exfiltration solution on the market.

BlackFog targets threat vectors when they try to replicate, activate, communicate or exfiltrate data. By neutralizing the attack at multiple points of its lifecycle it cannot move laterally within the organization or do any damage. Multiple layers of defense prevent data breaches, insider threats, ransomware, spyware, malware, phishing, unauthorized data collection and profiling.

How has the pandemic impacted your company?

The global pandemic pushed remote working to the forefront for organizations globally. It was no longer a question of if employees should be able to work from home in flexible conditions, but a mandatory practice.

With this change many IT departments struggled to pivot to the new reality and cybercriminals undoubtably took advantage of companies relying on antiquated technologies such as VPNs to safeguard their new remote teams.

The past 18 months has been a very busy time for companies like BlackFog who provide solutions to this problem. We have been fortunate to be busy during these uncertain times and have onboarded many new customers, particularly SMEs who turned to BlackFog to help them prevent cyberattacks and manage their remote employees.

Where do you see your company going in 5 years?

BlackFog’s goal is to be the preeminent solution in preventing ransomware, espionage and cyberattacks and to protect sovereign nations infrastructure from attack. New wars are now being waged in cyberspace rather than traditional weapons.

We feel it is our duty to protect every organization and citizen from cyberattack at an affordable cost. Our solutions protect individuals and organizations across Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices.

As a corporation we endeavor to be the type of company we would like to deal with ourselves and service our customers with passion and enthusiasm. We will be profitable and continue to develop industry leading products, not by following others but by defining new solutions to problems by investing heavily in research and development. Society is not pushed forward by followers but from leaders that look at problems from new perspectives.

What is the next big challenge in information security?

The challenge is always keeping up with increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals. People often forget that the bad actors have access to the same technology as the good guys. Ransomware is rising at an alarming rate, double extortion techniques have become the norm, and remote working is here to stay.

Those responsible for IT security need to stay one step ahead and adapt to a new way of thinking when it comes to preventing attacks and protecting data. The category of data exfiltration prevention will become more crucial as breaches and ransomware attacks result in more class action lawsuits and heavy regulatory fines.
